Not the best day's walking. Perhaps it's because it's short at nine miles, perhaps it's fatigue after the long trek out of The Lake District or maybe a tint of sadness at leaving behind the beauty of Lakeland. But you can understand my meaning when coming away from Shap the first thing you see is the menacing, ugly, dusty industrial works.
Closely followed by a crossing over the M6.
Then it's a walk up limestone quarry roads, followed by miles of limestone moor.
It's then a couple of miles strolling through grassy, buttercup covered meadow to Orton.
Lovely, yes indeed, but Lakeland it isn't. On the way we also passed an historical site called Robin Hood's Grave. Now if he couldn't make it to his own bay, What chance have we got ?
